Incomplete Spinal Cord Injury

Attention all cells!

An important announcement has just been released by brain.

The announcement is as follows: “Subsequent to body’s fall off the pinion seat of a motor cycle yesterday, and the resultant damage to vertebra T10, it was feared that body may not use legs again.

Brain is pleased to inform all cells that right-side large toe has just flicked at a fly. The flick came about as a result of a visual signal from eye, which was interpreted by brain, and a suitable pain sparing command was immediately despatched to toe.

The prompt attention rendered at the scene by attendant Emergency Medical staff, and the receiving personnel at the hospital trauma unit, who applied cold packs to reduce swelling, no doubt had some influence in this.”

With over 30 years experience as a Spinal Injury Attorney I know that this could be a sequence of events following an accident, any accident, in which a person’s back is hurt. The severity of the injury can range from mildly discomforting, as above, or, in a worst case scenario, total permanent paralysis. If you have found yourself in a similar situation, or worse, because of another persons’ recklessness or carelessness, It would be in your best interest to contact me as soon as possible. I will assess your case, the initial consultation is free, and should I represent you, my services will cost you nothing if there is no money compensation. Call me now, on 888 446 1999, to arrange your first, free, consultation.

Not all injuries to the spine result in paralysis. After a thorough medical examination, the attending physician will be in a position to tell the patient if the spinal cord has been damaged, and if so, at what level. The physician will be able to quantify the damage by informing the patient if the Spinal Cord Injury is incomplete, or complete. Until the early 1990’s, the “complete” or “incomplete” spinal cord injury diagnosis was somewhat hit and miss, as there was no real standardized classification system.

This diagnostic deficit created a scenario of conflicting treatment schedules and widely diverging opinions, and may perhaps have inadvertently made a contribution to the numbers of persons with complete spinal injury.

The American Spinal Injury Association made work of this lack of standardization, and as a result the ASIA Classification for Spinal Cord Injuries came into being. The ASIA Spinal Cord Injury Classification system is now used internationally, by most institutions and organizations that are in some way or another involved with spinal cord injuries.

The ASIA SCI classification system has standardized the measures and terminology to identify the level of injury sustained, and is invaluable to attending physicians, who need to be in a position to correctly, and accurately diagnose an injury, in order to prescribe further treatment.

As a Spinal Injury Attorney, my comprehensive knowledge of the ASIA SCI classification system is invaluable when advising clients.

Generally, an incomplete Spinal Cord Injury is an injury to the spinal cord that still allows voluntary use, even if that use is limited, below the area of the vertebral injury. The closer the injury to the spinal cord is to the brain, the larger the afflicted part of the body is. Injury to the spinal cord restricts the ability of the brain to communicate with those parts of the body below the injury.

Attentive medical care, from first treatment to diagnosis is far more accurate when the ASIA SCI classification system is utilized. It is the best diagnostic measure the medical profession has at their disposal upon which to base their findings and future treatment recommendations.
