Spinal cord injury patients often feel neglected by society, and to disprove this, I want to mention that annual grants of many millions are allocated for research and development into SCI and how to improve the quality of life of SCI sufferers. There is, for instance, ongoing research being done into wheelchairs. A person newly diagnosed with SCI invariably goes into denial, and the staff of SCI rehabilitation centers accept it is their task to assist their charges return to society with a full knowledge and understanding of their affliction and how it will impact themselves, and those around them.
